The story of Tonnellerie Vlad began in 1998 when the Vlad family created Transilvania Bois, with a dedicated forestry and stave-milling operation in the north of Romania. Situated in North Romania, at Sighetu Marmatiei in the Maramures region, it lies in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania.
With a deep interest in all things connected to wood and its associated trades, the Vlad family have always nurtured a passion for cooperage. In 2003, having acquired the necessary experience, they constructed a workshop equipped with a high-performance production unit and created a range of oak barrels sold under the brand name Transilvania Bois Tonnellerie. Thanks to a controlled supply chain and their excellent skills, these artisan coopers were able to make high quality, competitively priced products. As a result, the brand developed rapidly in the wine producing countries of Europe, the United States, South Africa and New Zealand.
In 2020, Transilvania Bois Tonnellerie has become Tonnellerie Vlad. This choice of a patronymic name is more than ever symbolic of the family tradition of maintaining and passing on these highly skilled trades.
